Spanish Immersion in Chicago
The Pilsen and Little Village areas of Chicago make up one of the largest Mexican-American communities in the country. There is no better way for a Spanish teacher to reinforce the curriculum than to immerse students in this authentic cultural area. Area highlights include:
National Museum of Mexican Art Located in Little Village, the National Museum of Mexican Art features a rich variety of visual and performing arts in the Mexican culture. The permanent collection features prominent works by Mexican artists and artifacts from Mexican history.
Guided Tour of Pilsen Village allows students to view the colorful wall murals and browse through one of the most vibrant shopping districts – 26th Street.
Laredo Bakery This unique shop is located in the heart of Pilsen Village. The aromas will entice students to grab a tray and start piling up the baked goods. Local favorites are the timbales (fried and sugared rosettes) and the pan de huevo (sweet breads with sugar on top).
